Meet The Host and Producers
Darren Gruner, Darren Gruner grew up in the landscaping industry. Mowing lawns, installing and trimming shrubs for extra cash, while at the age of 11, would only solidify his career path. Once he fell in love with maintaining the great outdoors, he realized his passion for wanting to improve it. That’s when he founded Kentucky Blue, his pride and joy.
Kentucky Blue was born only a few short months before Darren graduated high school in 1982. Not wanting to wait until he graduated college, Darren found a way to manage both. While he was learning academics as an undergraduate, his biggest lessons learned were through running his business. There he was able to develop polished business skills which keeps his company running after 30 years. He learned and has proved to have amazing people skills as well. Developing and maintaining numerous relationships along the way, many are still leaning on him for landscape advice.
Darren’s keen eye for design and innovative ideas have won him bids to improve and manage million dollar projects throughout his career. His work has also been showcased in magazine centerfolds and instructional pieces for “Do it yourselfers” and for those learning a new trade. Like his two children, his favorite accomplishments have only come naturally to him. Doing what he knows best is living and breathing turf management and landscape design. Now, through Turfs up radio, he gets to do what we all dream of doing. Every Saturday morning he comes to the station to help his listeners find easier, more affordable ways to improve their outdoor living by talking and sharing about his career, live on the radio.
