Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice
Contest
Submit a favorite dessert recipe via the Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice contest page at www.1077TheBronc.com from Wednesday, January 27 at 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
Contest is open to all full or part-time Rider students enrolled during the 2020 spring semester. Please note: this is a sweets competition. No savory recipes will be accepted.
Submissions must be a dessert. Recipes can be in the form of a cake, cupcake, cookie, cheesecake, pie, tart/torte, donut, fudge, pudding, ice cream, yogurt, candy, etc. A team of panelists from Gourmet Dining, LLC, aka Rider Dining, will judge all recipes submitted. Each recipe will be scored on originality, creativity and ease of baking.
After all of the recipes have been reviewed, Rider Dining will select three student desserts to compete in the Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice Bake-Off. Qualifying students will work with the Rider Dining executive chef and their team of pastry chefs to create their dessert and compete in the Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice Bake-Off on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at one of Daly Dining Hall’s three baking stations.
Bake-Off
All Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice qualifiers must be able to participate in the Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice Bake-Off on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Daly Dining Hall.
During the Bake-Off qualifying students will have the opportunity to compete alone, with a member of their family, or if no relative is available, an on-campus or off-campus friend. If, for any reason, an original qualifier is not able to participate, an alternate will be chosen as his/her replacement. The original contestant chosen will be disqualified.
During the competition three, local celebrity judges will sample and rate each recipe/dessert on a scale of 1 to 20 in four categories: Originality, recipe composition and how well each student incorporate all of the ingredients, taste, arrangement/ presentation Contestants can receive a maximum of 80 points per judge or 320 points. Judging represents 75% of each contestants overall score.
Rider students will also have the opportunity to sample all qualifying recipes and text their vote for their favorite entry to 877-900-1077, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 5, 2020. The student with the highest vote total will receive 80 additional points; 60 points for the second most votes cast, 40 points for third. Student voting represents 25% of each contestants overall score.
The student/recipe to receive the most points at the end of the competition will be deemed the Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice grand baker. Maximum points: 400. In the event of a tie, the contestant who receives the most student votes will be declared the winner. If the contestants are still tied, the judges will confer to decide a winner. All judge’s decisions are final.
Prizes
Entries: Everyone who enters Dessert Wars: Baker’s Choice receives their choice of a pair of tickets to McCarter Theater’s presentation of Sleuth, March 10-14 and March 25, 2020 at Matthews Theater; two tickets to the Philadelphia Flower Show, February 29 to March 8, 2020 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center or 2020 Trenton Thunder Baseball at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ.
First Place: An Apple iPad courtesy of xfinity ($300 value), 52-weeks of free tanning to the Tanning Zone in Ewing and Hamilton ($520 value), $150 in Bronc Bucks from Rider Dining and four tickets to a 2020 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ ($50 value).
Second Place: A Pepsi cruiser bicycle ($235 value), (1) two-hour VIP axe-throwing session for 10 at Bury The Hatchet in Lawrenceville ($420 value); four tickets to a 2020 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ ($50 value) and $125 in Bronc Bucks courtesy of Rider Dining.
Third Place: A laser tag party for 20 at Colonial Bowling and Entertainment Center ($200 value); a baseball outing for 10 at a 2020 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton ($125 value), NJ $75 in Bronc Bucks from Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining.
