Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions

Contest

Rider students enrolled as a part-time or full-time student and taking class during the Spring 2019 semester are invited to enter an original dessert recipe via the Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions contest page at www.1077TheBronc.com from February 4 to March 1, 2019. Entry deadline is March 1, 2019 at Noon.

A team of panelists from Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining will judge all recipes submitted. Each recipe will be scored on originality, creativity and if it has this semester’s key ingredient, sugar. After all of the recipes have been reviewed, Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining will select three desserts to compete in the Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions Bake-Off. Qualifying students will work with a Gourmet Dining pastry chef to create their dessert and compete in the Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions Bake-Off on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at one of three baking stations at Daly Dining Hall.

Bake-Off

All Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions qualifiers must be able to participate in the Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions Bake-Off on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Daly Dining Hall. If, for any reason, an original qualifier is not able to participate, an alternate will be chosen as his/her replacement. The original contestant chosen will be disqualified.

During the competition three, local celebrity judges will sample and rate each recipe/dessert on a scale of 1 to 20 in four categories: Recipe composition, arrangement/presentation, taste, and how well the student incorporates sugar as the recipes key ingredient. Contestants can receive a maximum of 80 points per judge or 240 points total.

Rider students will also have the opportunity to sample all qualifying recipes and text their vote for their favorite entry to 877-900-1077, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 7, 2019. The student with the highest vote total will receive 80 additional points; 60 points for the second most votes cast, 40 points for third. Student voting represents 25% of each contestants overall score.

The student/recipe to receive the most points at the end of the competition will be deemed the Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions grand baker. Maximum points: 320. In the event of a tie, the contestant who receives the most student votes will be declared the winner. If the contestants are still tied, the judges will confer to decide a winner. All judge’s decisions are final.

Prizes:

Qualifying Prize: Everyone who enters Dessert Wars: Confectionery Confessions receives a pair of tickets to either The Original Harlem Globetrotters on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. or the WWE Live on Friday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena.

First Place: A 55” HDTV courtesy of xfinity and four tickets to see Jeff Dunham on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena. Additional prizes include: a year’s tanning to the Tanning Zone in Ewing and Hamilton, $150 in Bronc Bucks from Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining and four tickets to a 2019 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ

Second Place: A Pepsi cruiser bicycle, four tickets to see Jeff Dunham on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena, a baseball outing for 10 at a 2019 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ and $125 in Bronc Bucks courtesy of Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining.

Third Place: A laser tag party for 20 at Colonial Bowling and Entertainment Center, four tickets to see Jeff Dunham on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena, $100 in Bronc Bucks from Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining and four tickets to a 2019 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ.

Alternate Prizes: Four tickets to see Jeff Dunham on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. at the CURE Insurance Arena, $50 in Bronc Bucks from Rider Eats by Gourmet Dining; two tickets to a 2019 Trenton Thunder baseball game at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ.
