Contest

Rider students are invited to enter an original dessert recipe featuring chocolate as it key ingredient via the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion contest page on www.1077TheBronc.com, or through the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion app on 107.7 The Bronc’s Facebook page March 28 – April 22, 2016. A team of panelists from Rider Dining by Aramark will judge all recipes submitted. Each recipe will be scored on originality, creativity and if it incorporates chocolate as a key ingredient. After all of the recipes have been reviewed, Rider Dining by Aramark will select five desserts to compete in the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion finale. Qualifying students will work with a Rider Dining by Aramark pastry chef to create their dessert and compete in the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion performance cooking competition on April 28, 2016 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at one of five stations at Daly Dining Hall.

 

Finale

All Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion qualifiers must be able to participate in the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion finale on April 28, 2016 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Daly Dining Hall. If, for any reason, an original qualifier is not able to participate, an alternate will be chosen as his/her replacement. The original contestant chosen will be disqualified.

During the competition three, local celebrity judges will sample and rate each recipe/dessert on a scale of 1 to 20 in four categories: Recipe composition, arrangement/presentation, taste, and how well the student incorporates chocolate as the recipes key ingredient. Contestants can receive a maximum of 80 points per judge or 240 points total.

Rider students will also have the opportunity to sample all qualifying recipes and text their vote for their favorite entry to 877-900-1077, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 28, 2016. The student with the highest vote total will receive 20 additional points. 18 points for the second most votes cast, 16 points for third, 14 for fourth and 12 for fifth place.

The student/recipe to receive the most points at the end of the competition will be deemed the Dessert Wars: Chocolate Explosion grand baker. Maximum points: 260. In the event of a tie, the contestant who received the most points for how well they incorporated candy as the key ingredient into their recipe will be declared the winner. If the contestants are still tied, the judges will confer to decide a winner. All judge’s decisions are final.

Second Place: A three-month supply of chocolate, or 13 individual gift certificates each valued at one-pound of chocolate, from David Bradley Chocolatier in East Windsor, NJ, $125 in Bronc Bucks, four tickets to a 2016 Trenton Thunder baseball game, one pair of tickets to Leonard Nimoy’s Vincent at the Theater at St. Clements in New York City, and four tickets to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Xtreme Wednesday, May 18 thru Saturday, May 21 at the Sun National Bank Center.
